A former college star who also played in the NFL has announced his retirement at the age of 24.

Carson Strong, a quarterback for Nevada from 2018-2021, took to X this Wednesday to announce he is calling it quits. Strong, who spent time with two NFL teams, has cited his struggle with injuries with claims that he pushed himself to the limit.

 

“From missing my senior year of high school, getting golf carted to my classes in my last season at Nevada because I couldn’t walk after games, all of the 5 knee surgeries, shots, drainings and continuous rehab, I can hang up the cleats knowing I pushed my knee as far as I possibly could,” he wrote.

“The knee can take no more ball.”

Strong had a decent college career that improved with each passing season. He threw for 4,186 yards, 36 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in his last year, leading Nevada to an 8-4 finish, and was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons.

He joined the Eagles as an undrafted player in 2022, also spending time on the Cardinals’ practice squad that year before playing two games with the Michigan Panthers in the USFL.

 

Strong says he plans to continue his involvement as a coach, having already taken up a job as the offensive coordinator at Reno High School while he also works as a private quarterback trainer.
