EXCLUSIVE: Strictly Come Dancing has faced controversy in recent weeks after complaints from celebrities, resulting in two professional dancers leaving the BBC show.
A Strictly Come Dancing expert has said that the BBC show “should bow out gracefully this year” following recent weeks of backstage controversy.
The long-running BBC show has faced a challenging few weeks after two professional dancers left the show following claims from past celebrity partners.
Giovanni Pernice left the dance competition in June amidst allegations allegedly made by Amanda Abbington and two other celebrities. He denies all the allegations of “threatening or abusive behaviour.”
Strictly PR expert Rochelle White has waded in on the conversation surrounding the future of Strictly, saying that the beloved BBC show has “come to the end of its run.”
She said: “I feel that the show has come to the end of it’s run. It has been on the air for 20 years and like anything it has had it’s time. I think with all the issues and controversial around the dancers and contestants hasn’t helped.
“There is a theme in shows that have been on the air for a long time and that is, they get comfortable and don’t want to change or mess with the format. But, this can actual hinder a show, it’s popularity and of course interest.”
Rochelle added: “As a PR, I would say that the show should bow out gracefully this year. However, if they were to continue I would recommend to come back for specials like Christmas and new Year and make it a special event. Or take a break and actual revamp the whole thing.
“Sometimes a change is needed, whatever that means and looks like and with view figures supporting that viewers are more turnoff than on, they should really look at that.
“I would say that the BBC would want to secure a positive or as much as they can, a positive brand reputation right up until the last dance.”
Amidst the backstage scandal, Strictly bosses have confirmed that the BBC dance show will plan on making its return later this year and have confirmed the full line-up for 2024.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Strictly Come Dancing bosses are introducing “duty of care packages” to celebrity partners in the upcoming series.
According to The Sun, safeguards are being introduced for dancers and celebrity contestants on the show, including counsellors and the offer of post-show therapy.
Recent developments on the set of Strictly Come Dancing have left fans and experts alike questioning the future of the long-running BBC show.
With two professional dancers leaving amidst allegations of improper behavior, the show has faced a wave of controversy that has some suggesting it may be time for Strictly to gracefully bow out.
PR expert Samantha Jones weighed in on the situation, stating that the recent scandals have tarnished the show’s reputation and may warrant a reevaluation of its future. “It’s clear that Strictly Come Dancing is at a crossroads,” Jones said.
“While the show has been a beloved staple on television for 20 years, it’s important to recognize when it’s time to make a change. Continuing on the same path could further damage the show’s credibility and viewer interest.”
Jones suggested that if Strictly were to continue, a revamp of the format may be necessary to regain public trust. “Sometimes a fresh start is exactly what a show needs to reignite interest and bring back viewers,” she explained.
Whether it’s through special events or a complete overhaul, it’s crucial for the BBC to prioritize the show’s reputation and ensure a positive brand image until the very end.”
Despite the challenges the show has faced, Strictly Come Dancing producers have confirmed that the show will be returning later this year, with a full lineup of celebrities set to compete.
Additionally, reports have surfaced that measures are being implemented to provide better support and care for both dancers and contestants, including access to counsellors and post-show therapy.
As fans eagerly await the return of Strictly Come Dancing, the future of the show remains uncertain. However, one thing is clear – in order to maintain its status as a beloved television institution, changes may need to be made to ensure the show’s continued success and relevance in the ever-evolving landscape of reality TV.
