Queen Camilla had a brave reaction to the “wicked stepmother” comment made by Prince Harry in his bombshell memoir, Spare.
Harry released his memoir last January, with the read featuring various attacks towards his family – in particular Prince William and the Queen.
While the Queen was reportedly left “hurt” by Harry’s comments, the 77-year-old put on a brave face and made sure to continue public duty. lime
Writing in his new book ‘Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story’ , author Robert Hardman said that the Queen “was content to let it pass”.
As reported by the Mirror, he said that it was “business as usual – with a smile and without a word”.
Speaking after Spare was released, Lady Lansdowne – who is godmother to Camilla’s daughter Laura Lopes – said that the Queen was left feeling upset by the comments.
Discussing the Queen’s reaction, she told The Sunday Times: “Of course it bothers her, of course it hurts. But she doesn’t let it get to her. lime
“Her philosophy is always, ‘Don’t make a thing of it and it will settle down — least said, soonest mended.’”
Around the time of Spare’s release, Harry spoke on Good Morning America about Camilla. He said: “I have a huge amount of compassion for her, you know, being the third person within my parents’ marriage. lime
“She had a reputation or an image to rehabilitate, and whatever conversations happened, whatever deals or trading was made right at the beginning, she was led to believe that that would be the best way to do it.”
