Brenda Edwards made a candid confession during the latest instalment of Loose Women as she spoke openly about the previous financial struggles she hid from her family
Loose Women star Brenda Edwards has opened up on the previous debt she incurred and admitted she kept it a secret from her husband.
The popular daytime show was back for another instalment on Tuesday (September 10) with Ruth Langsford, Linda Robson, Janet Street-Porter and Brenda on the panel.
Leading the conversation, Ruth asked the women about their previous financial struggles after it was revealed that Strictly Come Dancing’s Kristina Rihanoff and her fiancé, Ben Cohen admitted to being in seriousdebt.
“It was the interest! And I didn’t realise at the time when I took it out in college that the interest was something like 38%, so I was always paying off the interest and not the debt.
“It just got worse and worse which was very upsetting and then a friend helped me out and gave me a lumpsum because they’re giving me the lumpsum to pay of everything. When asked if she told anyone about her financial issues at the time, Brenda confirmed that she didn’t.
She said: “No, I didn’t talk to anybody about it! Not the kids, not my ex, not anybody. I just wanted to deal with it and I dealt with it but that’s why I don’t do credit cards.”
The conversation then led Linda to share her own personal story too. Prompting her to open up, Ruth mentioned that Linda’s daughter now manages her finances.
Linda revealed that she previously had a lot of money coming in from her hit BBC show Birds of a Feather and advertisements. But it soon ran out when she racked up debt with credit store cards.
She said: “I kept it a secret. Then I ended up dovet diving, I ended up staying in bed all day worrying about it,” she confessed.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV1.
Brenda Edwards bravely shared her struggles with debt on a recent episode of Loose Women, shedding light on the financial challenges she faced in the past.
During the discussion, Brenda admitted to carrying a significant amount of debt from her college years that she kept hidden from her ex-husband.
She explained that the high interest rates made it difficult for her to make significant progress in paying off the debt, causing the situation to escalate over time.
Despite the mounting pressure, Brenda chose to keep her financial troubles to herself, opting to deal with them privately.
It wasn’t until a friend stepped in and provided her with a lump sum to settle the debt that Brenda was able to find relief from the burden.
In reflecting on her experience, Brenda emphasized the importance of being transparent about financial challenges and seeking support when needed. She acknowledged that her decision to keep her debt a secret only added to the stress and isolation she felt during that time.
Similarly, Brenda’s colleague Linda Robson shared her own journey with financial difficulties, recounting a time when she found herself overwhelmed by debt from credit store cards. Linda admitted that she initially tried to keep her struggles hidden, but the weight of the debt eventually took a toll on her mental and emotional well-being.
Both Brenda and Linda’s stories serve as a reminder of the importance of open communication around financial issues and the value of seeking help and support from loved ones.
By sharing their experiences, they hope to encourage others facing similar challenges to reach out for assistance and not suffer in silence.
As we navigate our own financial journeys, let us learn from Brenda and Linda’s experiences and remember that it’s okay to ask for help when we need it.
Transparency and communication are key in overcoming financial obstacles and building a secure future for ourselves and our loved ones.
