BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent was left concerned for her co-star Jon Kay during the morning show on Wednesday after the pair discussed an adorable turtle named Nazare
BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent was quick to show her concern for co-host Jon Kay after they covered the story of Nazare, a loggerhead turtle found on a Cumbrian beach and later released back into the sea. The touching moment of Nazare’s release was shown to viewers, leaving Jon visibly emotional.
Sally pointed out: “What a great story, oh you look a bit sad!” Jon admitted he was moved by the handler in the video who missed saying goodbye to Nazare, saying: “It’s heartbreaking!” Sally comforted him, noting that Nazare was now free, with Jon adding: “fingers crossed.”
She observed: “No algae, no nothing, she looks great!” They told viewers they’d catch up with Todd German from Sea Life Scarborough for more on Nazare, as reported by the Express.

The segment revealed that Nazare, the turtle, was discovered by a dog walker in a dire state, covered in cuts and algae, barely clinging to life, before her astonishing recovery.
But it turns out this wasn’t Nazare’s first rodeo with humans. Scott Blacker dished the dirt to the BBC on her past captivity stint, thanks to the satellite tracker on her shell, reports the Mirror.

It comes after Jon admitted: “I can’t believe this!” over a segment on Monday’s (September 16) programme. Left baffled that some people would purchase luxury advent calendars for up to £640, he fumed: “I can’t believe this! I cannot believe this, people saying they pay £40 even just seems an extraordinary amount of money.”
Sally joked: “Jon can barely look! Look at Jon’s face!” as he joked: “I just told Sally I’ll make her one just like you used to make in the old days.”
BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent showed her compassionate side once again as she expressed concern for her co-star Jon Kay during a heartwarming segment on Wednesday.
The duo discussed the touching story of Nazare, a loggerhead turtle who was found on a Cumbrian beach, nursed back to health, and released back into the sea.
Viewers were moved by the emotional moment of Nazare’s release, with Jon visibly touched by the handler in the video who appeared to be saying goodbye to the turtle.
Sally, ever the caring co-host, quickly noticed Jon’s somber expression and remarked, “Oh, you look a bit sad!” Jon admitted to feeling heartbroken, saying, “It’s heartbreaking to see her go.”
Sally, always ready with a comforting word, pointed out that Nazare was now free and Jon added optimistically, “fingers crossed.” Observing Nazare’s healthy appearance, Sally remarked, “No algae, no nothing, she looks great!”
The duo promised viewers that they would have more information on Nazare from Todd German of Sea Life Scarborough, showcasing their commitment to delivering engaging and informative content.
In a lighthearted moment, Sally teased Jon about whether Nazare had been in touch, to which Jon humorously replied, “She doesn’t write, she doesn’t call, she doesn’t email, nothing!” The pair shared a laugh as Sally quipped, “She’s living her best life, having a fabulous time.”
The segment uncovered more about Nazare’s past, revealing that she had a previous stint in captivity at La Rochelle aquarium in France before being rehabilitated and released back into the wild.
Scott Blacker divulged this information to the BBC, sharing, “We found out that she was released from the coast of France from La Rochelle aquarium where she had been rehabilitated in June 2023.”
It seems Nazare had experienced human care before, as Scott noted, “So, it wasn’t the first time she’d been in a facility like ours.”
The heartwarming story of Nazare’s journey from a dire state to freedom touched not only Jon and Sally but also viewers who were captivated by her resilience and spirit.
The segment reflected the heartwarming and informative content that BBC Breakfast strives to deliver to its audience, showcasing the dedication of the hosts and the impact of compelling storytelling. Stay tuned for more engaging and insightful updates as we continue to bring you delightful content.
