Miley Cyrus had a MAJOR wardrobe fail while co-hosting her New Year’s Eve Party special on NBC with Pete Davidson, which was streamed live from Miami, Florida on Friday night.
The 29-year-old Hannah Montana alum was performing hit single Party In The USA just moments after the clock struck midnight when her top – which was held together by silver straps – came undone.
She was forced to catch it with her hands and appeared stunned as she looked down at her chest.
Being a total pro, Cyrus swiftly made her way backstage while her band and backup singers did their best to carry on the stalled performance.
Moments later, Miley reemerged wearing a bright red blazer in place of her broken top and, referencing to one of the line’s in Party In the USA, joked that, ‘Everybody’s DEFINITELY looking at me now!’
She also quipped that her current outfit was still the most clothed she’s ever been during a performance.
Party In The USA was part of a Miley medley consisting of her 2020 song Midnight Sky and her controversial 2013 hit We Can’t Stop.
Her unreliable top boasted a cowl neckline and several strategic holes yet it was the glitzy straps that failed the star.
It was paired with a matching skirt that just barely concealed her derriere as she twirled around on stage.
Despite the two-piece’s daring nature, Miley’s outfit did stay in tact while singing Midnight Sky and We Can’t Stop with featured artist 24kGoldn.
Pete was forced to take center stage as Miley got herself situated with her glam squad, with the comedian acknowledging that there was ‘almost a boob slip’ on stage.
Cyrus, eventually, returned to confront her shocked audience with another goosebump-inducing song.
Upon its conclusion, she thanked the in-person audience and viewers at home for tuning in and joked about her special’s unexpected moment of drama.
‘Tonight’s show was all about being flexible. Rolling with the punches and making the best out of even the worst circumstances. And that resilience shouldn’t end here.

‘Let’s bring that into the new year with us. We’ve all learned how to expect the unexpected,’ she said.
Just like it’s finale, Miley Cyrus’ New Year’s Eve Party also started off with a bang that saw her and Davidson open the show with their own hilarious rendition of Will Smith’s hit single Miami.
The dynamic duo gave multiple nods to their mutual love of marijuana, joked about strict FCC guidelines around ‘cursing’, and and playfully bickered over who’s the true ‘star of the show.’
Miley flashed her enviably toned tummy in a barely-there metallic tube top and a glitzy beaded skirt.
She gave her look some funky Miami flair by throwing on a rainbow fur coat. She slipped her feet into a pair of strappy heels to stomp around the stage with Davidson.
Cyrus’ bleach blonde hair was blown out and she highlighted her large blue peepers with a pale eyeshadow look and dramatic winged eyeliner.
The Plastic Hearts singer gave herself a boost in a pair of glittery silver platform shoes with ankle straps.
Pete rocked a pair of shades and put on his most Miami-approved getup consisting of a highly patterned button-up shirt and trousers.
The SNL star kept his newly shaved head concealed beneath a ball cap as he spoke directly to the audience with Cyrus by his side.
Once the jovial hosts wrapped up their opening number, they eagerly welcomed the night’s first guest act to the stage, Saweetie.
The 28-year-old rapper performed her hit song TAP IN while rocking a bedazzled bustier top and a semi-sheer pink sarong.
Her bleach blonde buzz cut was complimented with a pair of large silver earrings and two dazzling choker necklaces.
She was later joined on stage by Brazilian pop songstress Anitta to perform their collaborative track Faking Love.
The 28-year-old singer highlighted her trim figure in a strapless magenta bodysuit with matching strappy heels.
Showing off her musical prowess, Miley was eager to perform alongside Brandi Carlile.
The pair delivered a stunning rendition of Carlile’s song The Story which saw Cyrus successfully belt out the infectious chorus for the crowd.
The 40-year-old singer-songwriter suited up for the occasion in blue striped trousers and a matching vest.
Miley ditched her opening outfit and reemerged in a curve-clinging sheer black dress adorned with gold chains.
She slipped her feet into a pair of black leather knee-high boots also adorned with layered of glistening gold chains.
After singing The Story, Brandi and Miley served up some major nostalgia by performing Miley’s 2009 hit The Climb.
Jack Harlow, who was introduced by pal Pete, was next to take the stage in a red and white flame print turtleneck sweater and a pair of brown trousers.
The rapper completed the trendy look with some white sneakers.
Rocking a red velvet blazer – the one that would later save her after her wardrobe malfunction – Miley returned to perform a cover of Blondie’s Heart Of Glass.
She layered the lush outerwear over a red spandex bodysuit with cut-outs just below the bust. Cyrus accessorized with matching gloves and transparent stiletto heels.
The songstress also gave her recent album Plastic Hearts a bit of love by belting out its title track just before the commercial break.
24kGoldn looked suave in a black pinstripe suit covered in reflective jewels and a ruffled white shirt as he sang his radio hit Mood.
Continuing to be the hostess with the mostess, Miley brought out her little sister Noah Cyrus to perform a cover of Dolly Parton’s Jolene.
Miley took the plunge in a silver fringed jumpsuit while Noah, 21, left little to the imagination in a sparkly black gown with a dramatic leg slit that stopped at her waistline.
Anitta came out for one final performance with her troupe of leggy dancers while she flaunted her figure in a black leotard and sheer black tights.
Mixed among the many performances were comical skits featuring Pete and Miley, including one memorable parody song titled Unrealistic Resolutions.
This saw the pair perform on a yacht in Miami Vice inspired getups while Pete attempted to concoct a list of New Year’s resolutions for himself – many of which seemed unachievable.
Miley lent her vocal talents to the sketch by firing back at his resolution list with some quippy lyrics.
She modeled a sexy chartreuse gown with a large cut-out on one side and a daring thigh-high slit that was held together by gold hardware.
Her hair was worn up in a high ponytail and she drew attention to her pout with bright red lipstick.
Miley shared several behind-the-scenes snaps from the set of the sketch with her Instagram followers shortly after her special aired.
Just hours before Miley Cyrus’ New Year’s Eve Party kicked off it was revealed that musical guest Billie Joe Armstrong was forced to axe his appearance, ‘out of caution’, after he came into contact with someone with coronavirus.
The ‘Basket Case’ hitmaker tweeted: ‘After the holiday I found out I was exposed to COVID. I’ve tested negative but, I have made the decision not to travel to Miami for New Year’s Eve Party out of caution.
‘Happy New Year and hope everyone stays safe!’
Miley and Pete’s star-studded show replaced Carson Daly’s annual New Year’s Eve special.
The network also promised more surprise guests will appear on the show, which will air live from Miami from 10.30pm.
News of the A-list special was announced last month.
Jen Neal, the executive vice president of live events, specials and E! News at NBCUniversal, said in a statement: ‘In what is sure to be an exciting and fun evening, we are looking forward to partnering with Lorne Michaels and ringing in 2022 with a night of incredible entertainment, led by Miley and Pete.’
The TV special is being directed by Joe DeMaio and Hopetown Entertainment – Miley and her mom Tish’s production company – will produce the project. Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels is the executive producer.
Meanwhile, the hosts revealed earlier this month they used to have matching tattoos but the SNL star secretly had his removed.
The pair had appeared in a sketch on SNL in 2017 as rapping babies, which ended with them saying the words, ‘We babies’.
Miley said: ‘We were dressed as babies, everything seemed fun and fine. For some reason, we looked at each other and were like, ‘That’s a great tattoo… we’re doing this.’
Pete added: ‘And then we did…And then I burned mine off, and you still have yours.’
The Wrecking Ball singer only realized Pete had had his removed when she saw him beginning the process in an advert.
She said: ‘He’s drinking Smartwater and getting his tattoos lasered off… and I’m like, ‘Wait a minute. That’s right where ‘we babies’ was.’ Pete quipped: ‘It’s no babies.’
