During the Singaporean segment of The Eras Tour, Taylor Swift shared a personal connection to the country by revealing that her mother grew up in Singapore.

The American singer-songwriter made this revelation on Saturday, also the first day of her performance in Singapore, which included six sold-out shows scheduled for March 2-4 and March 7-9, as reported by Mothership.

“My mom actually spent a lot of her childhood with her mom and dad and sister growing up in Singapore,” the singer said during a moment when she was explaining the inspiration behind her song “marjorie,” which is a tribute to her maternal grandmother.

“So a lot of the time when we’d come here on tour, my mom would take me and drive me past her old house, where she used to go to school. So I’ve been hearing about Singapore my whole life.”

According to Hello! Magazine, Swift also expressed how performing in Singapore and experiencing the audience’s support for “marjorie” was incredibly meaningful to her and her family.

Swift, 35, first rose to fame with her country music before transitioning to pop. She has released 14 albums throughout her career, including four re-recordings known as Taylor’s Version.

Forbes reported her net worth to be US$1.1 billion following the success of “The Eras Tour” in 2023.

Time magazine awarded her the title of “Person of the Year” for 2023.

Singapore represents the only Southeast Asian destination on her ongoing “The Eras Tour,” leading to increased airfare prices to the country from other Southeast Asian nations, such as Vietnam.
