Lionel Messi has won 42 trophies for club and country till date and is only behind Dani Alves in the list of most trophies won by a football player.
Lionel Messi ascended to new highs after lifting the FIFA World Cup 2022 with Argentina recently.
The FIFA World Cup, after all, was the final piece missing from Lionel Messi’s incredible trophy cabinet, which now boasts every trophy the Argentine could possibly win in his career.
Including the Qatar World Cup, Lionel Messi has won 43 trophies, for both club and country, which puts him just one behind his former Barcelona teammate Dani Alves as the footballer with most trophies in their career.
Messi scored seven goals and assisted three more throughout Argentina’s historic campaign in Qatar, becoming the first player in World Cup history to score in the group stages, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final of a single edition. He won the Golden Ball at Qatar 2022 as well, making him the first player to win the coveted individual accolade twice (2014 and 2022).
The FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar was Lionel Messi’s third major international trophy Messi won with Argentina, having won the Copa America (2021) and Cup of Champions (2022) previously. He had also won the Olympic gold medal with Argentina at Beijing 2008.
Lionel Messi trophy wins
In his first season with FC Barcelona senior team in the 2004-05 season, 17-year-old Messi won the La Liga and followed it up with the Supercopa de Espana.
In the following season, the teenage sensation upped the ante and started becoming an integral part of the senior team, winning the league once again and lifting his first Champions League trophy, beating Arsenal in the final.
However, the breakthrough season of his professional career was the 2008-09 edition. He scored over 30 goals across all competitions for the first time in his career (38 goals in 51 matches) and helped Barcelona achieve their first-ever treble (La Liga, Copa Del Rey and Champions League), capping it off with a goal in the Champions League final against Manchester United.
He won his second treble under Luis Enrique in 2014-15, once again leading the side from the front with a whopping 58 goals in 57 matches across all competitions.
The Argentine superstar won a staggering 35 trophies with Barcelona, second only to Ryan Giggs in the list of most trophies won with a single club (36 trophies with Manchester United). He left Barcelona in the summer of 2021 to join Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
In his first season with the Parisian club, Lionel Messi won the league and the Trophee des Champions.
With Argentina, Lionel Messi’s first major trophy was the FIFA World Youth Championship in 2005 followed by the Olympic gold medal in 2008. He guided the senior team to the Copa America title in 2021 before winning the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
