USA legend Cobi Jones has highlighted David Beckham as the real reason behind Inter Miami’s transformation in signing Lionel Messi.

The Herons co-owner played a key role in bringing the Argentine superstar to MLS with Messi since winning the Ballon d’Or and leading Inter Miami to their first piece of silverware via the Leagues Cup.

With Inter Miami and Messi already flying this season in MLS, the Argentine international is being hailed as the man who has transformed the Florida franchise’s fortunes after his performances for the club.

Cobi Jones hails David Beckham as Inter Miami’s saviour over Lionel Messi

Yet in an interview with FIFA, Jones has highlighted Beckham as the man behind Inter Miami’s recent success, with the former England captain putting in the work behind the scenes to get his team finally off the ground.

Jones said when asked about Beckham’s huge impact at Intet Miami: “One thing I’ve learned is, never underestimate David Beckham. What he’s done there has been fantastic.

“I don’t think anyone thought he was going to pull something like this off! He and his team have done something spectacular by signing Messi.

“They’ve then made those additional signings, bringing in the likes of Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez. They’re making all the right moves on the field and bringing a lot of attention to MLS.”

MLS not would be where it is now without David Beckham

From joining the LA Galaxy to forming Inter Miami, Beckham’s mark on MLS is one of the largest of any known figure in the sporting world.

The former England superstar and international celebrity has been influential in building soccer to what it is now in 2024, with Beckham showing no sign of slowing down just yet.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup coming to the States, Beckham can once again push the sport in America to new unprecedented heights, with Messi and Inter Miami the crown jewel.
