Country star Taylor Swift told Teen Hollywood that attending senior prom was “the coolest thing.” With platinum record sales, multiple CMT Music Awards, and a Grammy nomination under her belt, the eighteen-year-old singer had already achieved remarkable
On Saturday night, Taylor Swift made her senior prom dreams come true at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. “It was literally one of the best nights of my life!” Swift exclaimed to Teen Hollywood.
Part of MTV’s Once Upon a Prom, set to air on June 12, Swift attended the event accompanied by senior Whit Wright, whom she selected from a pool of around 50 applicants. “This guy was so down-to-earth and quintessentially American,” Swift gushed. Despite being homeschooled for the past two years, she found Wright to be “unbelievably sweet.”
Dressed in a stunning beige BCBG full-length gown, Swift arrived to pick up Wright in her new tour bus. However, upon discovering that her date had donned a pink tie and vest in honor of a friend’s mother battling breast cancer, Swift dashed to the back of the bus and changed into a pale pink dress by Sue Wong. The gesture was not only heartwarming but added an extra touch of meaning to an already unforgettable evening.
‘The Coolest Thing!’
“I felt like I was back in high school again, but in the best possible way – no drama, no cattiness,” Taylor Swift reminisced about her prom experience. Unfortunately, she’ll be on tour when her former high school, Hendersonville High in Tennessee, holds its prom. “It was the coolest thing!” she exclaimed.
Meanwhile, her prom date, Whit Wright, who had bought her a corsage, expressed his disbelief to the Tuscaloosa News: “I thought I’d be going to prom alone, but instead, I’m going with Taylor Swift! This has truly been the best senior year I could have ever imagined.”
The evening was made even more memorable as Taylor Swift and her best friend Abigail double-dated with Whit Wright and his best friend, starting the festivities by partying with other seniors aboard the ‘Bama Belle riverboat before hitting the dance floor. Despite the romantic setting, there was no prom-night PDA from the singer-songwriter.
“I don’t kiss on the first date!” Swift declared, hinting at the possibility of future encounters. “We’ll definitely meet up again. We have concerts in Alabama regularly, and his whole family plans to attend our shows and events. He truly was the best prom date ever!”
milestones. However, as of Friday night, she hadn’t experienced the traditional rite of passage: attending her senior prom.
