Super Bowl LIX is over seven months away. But already speculation is arising on who will perform at the halftime show.
On Monday, independent news source MLFootball reported that Grammy-winning pop superstar Miley Cyrus has been touted as one of the candidates to headline the annual act. She was a finalist for last season’s edition, which eventually went to Usher.
In February, Gambling.com has the Hannah Montana alum at +137.5, the highest odds for any candidate act. Next is Taylor Swift, who’s dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, at +200. No update on her has since emerged until now.
While she has never done a halftime show before, Cyrus has some prior experience performing at a Super Bowl.
At LV, at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season, she performed at the “TikTok Tailgate” pregame ceremony in front of 7,500 healthcare workers. However, it’s not yet confirmed that she will perform at Super Bowl LIX.
Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne also frontrunners to perform at Super Bowl LIX
Speaking of Taylor Swift, she confirmed at her concert in Liverpool that her Eras Tour would conclude in December. That will free her to perform in New Orleans in February 2025, and there’s a strong chance of that happening.
Shortly after Super Bowl LVIII, a pair of business insiders told The Sun that influential league figures were desperate to get Swift to commit, with one of them noting that if she accepts, LIX would certainly break records, given the ubiquity of her relationship with Kelce:
“The ads could reach a cost of $8.5 million each, an increase of $1 million, or more.
“This year, it has been estimated that her presence helped generate a lot of money, estimated between $700-750 million. If she is the main artist of next year’s halftime show, it’s expected to generate more than $1.3-1.5 billion.”
The other insider said that provided the Chiefs made it back for their three-peat bid, the game “will be the biggest sports event ever broadcasted in America”.
Yet another frontrunner is rapper Lil’ Wayne, who was born in New Orleans. During Super Bowl LVIII week, he said that he had been “praying” to be selected, on the 4HUNNID podcast:
“I will not lie to you. I have not got a call or nothing… We keeping our fingers crossed. I’m working hard.”
Broadcast details for Super Bowl LIX
Super Bowl LIX will air on Fox, the second under the 11-year media rights agreement the the NFL signed with it, NBC, CBS and ABC/ESPN. It will also stream on NFL+ on mobile platforms and air over the radio on Westwood One.
Notably, it’s expected to be the first Super Bowl called by seven-time champion Tom Brady, who will begin his record-breaking 10-year, $375-million tenure as Fox’s lead analyst in September.
