Viewers thought it was the ‘worst outfit’ to wear to the event – especially when it rained
CHRISSY Teigen is being praised for her amazing comeback after some people criticized her outfit for the Olympics opening ceremony.
Chrissy, 38, is in Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics with husband John Legend and their two oldest children, Luna, 8, and Miles, 6.
She gave fans a glimpse into the “rainy” opening ceremony on Instagram, as Chrissy shared photographs of the “absolutely epic experience” on Saturday.
For the occasion, the Sports Illustrated model picked a long-sleeve, cable-knit cardigan in olive green, paired with matching micro shorts from Chloé’s womenswear fall 2024 collection.
The ensemble drew criticism from some Instagram users, who questioned Chrissy’s decision to wear “underwear to the opening ceremony.”
“Why is she wearing just underpants?” one person commented.
Another comment read, “Looks like she has a diaper on [laughing emoji].”
“Your outfit is ridiculous,” a third user wrote, while a fourth added, “Come on !! This outfit is tasteless!”
Chrissy remained unfazed by her critics, as she hit back at a commenter who declared her look was “the worst outfit for that kind of event.”
“Thanks for sharing!” she replied, with the comment receiving over 3,700 likes at the time of writing.
Several fans also defended Chrissy against the self-appointed “fashion police,” with one person writing, “She wasn’t competing in the Olympics lol why can’t she wear whatever she wants?”
“Everyone is upset because they wouldn’t feel confident wearing this,” another comment read. “She is. It’s Paris. It’s fashion, Like or don’t…you’re not wearing it.”
Freaks and Geeks star Busy Philipps also expressed support for Chrissy, as she commented, “My god this fit [fire emoji]” under the pictures.
In the photographs, Chrissy can be seen posing alongside John, 45, who is dressed in a black suit with gold buttons.
She captioned the post, “Opening ceremonies! sure it was a little (a lot) rainy wowowowowow absolutely epic experience (and got to see a few of my favourite people!)”
Chrissy included pictures with Snoop Dogg, American cook Ina Garten, The Hunger Games actor Elizabeth Banks, and Below Deck star Captain Sandy Yawn in her post that earned over 460,000 likes on Instagram.
On Friday, celebrities, politicians, and dignitaries descended on the French capital for the Olympics opening ceremony, with special performances from Lady Gaga and Celine Dion.
While Lady Gaga kicked off the show with a dazzling rendition of Zizi Jeanmaire’s Mon truc en plumes, Dion closed the ceremony at the Eiffel Tower after the lighting of the torch.
The 56-year-old singer appeared emotional as she returned to the stage for the first time since revealing she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022.
Dressed in a sparkly white dress, Dion left fans speechless as she performed Edith Piaf’s L’Hymne à l’amour during the ceremony on Friday evening.
“Celine sounded amazing! So proud to see her up there,” one said.
A second said, “This is so legendary.”
“What a performance from our queen Celine. She worked so hard to be able to sing again,” a third said.
