A contestant on The Chase was stunned when they managed to get a question right despite not knowing the answer and saying “pass”.
The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh was left speechless when the answer to a question turned out to be “pass”, much to the contestant’s relief.
Bradley posed the question: “In computer security what word can go before code, phrase and word,” to contestant Fintan who had £3,000 in his cashbuilder at that stage.
The bemused guest said “pass” to indicate he didn’t know the answer. His demeanour instantly changed when Bradley said: “Correct,” while looking astonished.
The inadvertant correct answer ultimately helped Fintan land a £5,000 cashbuilder but Bradley had to address the elephant in the room.
Looking at the camera laughing it took him several seconds to get out the words: “It’s happened. It’s actually happened. The word ‘pass’ is an answer,” he laughed.
As Fintan creased up laughing Bradley looked at him and said: “You jammy so and so!” Unfortunately for Fintan that seemed to be the end of his lucky streak.
He took the high offer of £50,000 from the chaser Mark “The Beast” Labbett but was no match for the professional quizzer and was knocked out. Viewers had some thoughts and took to X to share them.
@Gooner_70ns opined: “#TheChase Oh dear But his genuine pass turning out to be the correct answer was TV quiz show gold Despite that I still have to post the obligatory…,” followed by a GIF of a woman saying “Thick!”
@RikLivetweet asked: “How the f**k do they have ‘pass’ as an answer? That’s ridiculous, he’s gifted an answer that he clearly didn’t know #thechase.”
Meanwhile @DrSlicer enquired: “Is there no beginning to the knowledge of the contestants on tonight’s #thechase.”
The Beast lived up to his name and managed to eliminate all the contestants before the final chase.
This meant they had to implement the Lazarus rule whereby the team nominates one player to attempt the final round in order to win them £1,000 each.
While their selection Miriam managed to score 17 it was no match for Mark who easily caught them sending them home with nothing.
An unexpected turn of events occurred on a recent episode of The Chase, leaving both the contestant and host in disbelief. The contestant, Fintan, found himself in a tricky situation when he was asked a question in the cashbuilder round.
Not knowing the answer, he simply replied with a casual “pass”. Much to his surprise, the host Bradley Walsh revealed that “pass” was actually the correct answer.
This lucky break boosted Fintan’s cashbuilder total to £5,000, much to the amazement of everyone involved. Bradley Walsh couldn’t help but chuckle at the irony of the situation, exclaiming with a laugh, “It’s happened.
It’s actually happened. The word ‘pass’ is an answer!” Fintan himself couldn’t contain his laughter, as Bradley jokingly called him a “jammy so and so”.
Despite his stroke of luck, Fintan’s winning streak came to an end when he faced off against the formidable chaser, Mark “The Beast” Labbett.
Opting for the high offer of £50,000, Fintan ultimately fell short in the final chase and was eliminated from the game.
Viewers of the show took to social media to share their thoughts on the unexpected turn of events. One user expressed astonishment at the inclusion of “pass” as a legitimate answer, while another questioned the contestants’ overall knowledge on the show.I
n the end, Mark “The Beast” Labbett proved to be too much for the contestants to handle, ultimately resulting in their elimination. Despite their best efforts, the team was unable to secure a victory in the final chase, leaving them empty-handed.
